PRESCHOOL SWIMMING ACTIVITIES

Got a Preschool Class?

Teaching preschool-level swimming lessons is a fun and rewarding experience. You'll be working with children aged three to five to help them develop fundamental swim skills, such as floating, kicking, and arm strokes. Building trust and confidence with both the children and their parents is key. With patience, creativity, and a positive attitude, you can help young children develop a lifelong love of swimming and the water.

PRESCHOOL 1:

We encourage the parent to participate until their child lets them know they can do it themselves (thank you very much). These preschoolers will have fun learning to get in and out of the water. We'll help them jump into chest deep water. They'll float and glide on their front and back and learn to get their faces wet and blow bubbles underwater.

PRESCHOOL 2:

These preschoolers learn to jump into chest-deep water by themselves, and get in and get out wearing a lifejacket. They'll submerge and exhale underwater. Wearing a lifejacket they'll glide on their front and back.

PRESCHOOL 3:

These youngsters will try both jumping and a sideways entry into deep water while wearing a lifejacket. They'll recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They'll work on kicking and gliding through the water on their front and back.

PRESCHOOL 4:

Advanced preschoolers will learn to do solo jumps into deeper water and get out by themselves. They'll do sideways entries and open their eyes underwater. They'll master a short swim on their front wearing a lifejacket and gliding and kicking on their side.

PRESCHOOL 5:

These youngsters get more adventuresome with a forward roll entry wearing a lifejacket and treading water for 10 sec. They'll work on front and back crawl swims for 5 m, interval training and get a giggle out of whip kick.

PRESCHOOL GAMES

  • Red Light, Green Light - This classic game can be adapted to swimming lessons by having children kick or swim towards the instructor on the "green light" command and stop when the "red light" command is given.
  • Follow the Leader - Have the instructor swim around the pool while the children follow, copying their strokes and movements.
  • Treasure Hunt - Toss dive toys or objects into the pool for children to retrieve, either by diving down or using a kickboard.
  • Simon Says - This game can be modified to include swim skills such as floating, kicking, or arm strokes.
  • Water Limbo - Set up pool noodles or other objects as a "limbo bar" for children to swim under while floating on their backs.
  • Musical Floaties - Similar to musical chairs, have children float on a kickboard or noodle while music plays. When the music stops, they must swim to the side of the pool and retrieve a toy.
  • Chop Chop Timber: have kids start curled up as tiny seeds, then water them with a water can and have them stand up as if they were growing into big trees, then go "Chop Chop timber" and have them jump in the pool
